SPRING EVENT 2012

COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP & BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS

Spring is the season for the Great American Clean-up. TGHAP encourages Green Hills’ merchants, businesses and friends to participate in their own way. Here are some things you can do to keep your community beautiful:

1)   PLAN A CLEAN-UP DAY. Get your group together and clean up areas near your business that need attention (parking lot, alley, sidewalk, ditch, creek, etc.).  Clean-ups promote team-building and community pride!

2)   PLANT AND BEAUTIFY.  Enhance “curb appeal” by adding more landscaping to your building or storefront.  Add trees, bushes, street furniture, potted plants, a water feature or public art to your landscaping plans.

3)   ADOPT A POLE. Have you noticed a utility pole cluttered with illegal signs or posters?  Adopt it!   Remove illegal signs and keep your property surroundings looking clean and attractive.

4)   ADOPT A SPOT.  Do you see litter left behind on a street corner or weeds growing in a sidewalk? Is a bus bench blown over? Adopt it! Help to keep the area as clean as you would your own property.

WOULD YOUR BUSINESS LIKE TO ORGANIZE A GROUP CLEANUP OR BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT?

Email TGHAP and we’ll tell you how to get started, plus help you get FREE cleanup supplies and recognition for your group’s work.  Email us at info@tghap.org.

GREEN HILLS HISTORIC HOMECOMING

 Date and Time TBA

A FUN EVENT OF STORYTELLING, PHOTOGRAPHS AND MEMORABILIA FROM THE PAST

Green Hills Historic Homecoming is a fun place for friends, schoolmates and neighbors to gather and celebrate Green Hills’ history.  Usually held on a summer afternoon, the Homecoming event features a panel of local speakers who share tales, stories and interesting facts about Green Hills past. The storytelling is free, open to the public and will be taped.

Also displayed at the Homecoming are rarely seen photographs, memorabilia and aerial maps for visitors to view and enjoy. If you like nostalgia and want to run into old friends, merchants or classmates, come to the Green Hills Historic Homecoming.

Each year, the Homecoming topics change. Some topics were: Elementary School Days; Old Homes Along Hillsboro Pike; Construction in Green Hills; Musicians, dancers and artists of Green Hills; Summer Baseball games; and Hillsboro High School memories. If you have suggestions for a future topic and photos relative to the topic, please let us know!

NOTE: Photographs (copies will do) from the events are donated to Metro Archives for the Green Hills history files.  If you have photographs or memorabilia from life in Green Hills prior to 1975, please let us know! We are looking for photographs, ads, menus, articles, store ads, etc. about anything Green Hills, including school days, parties, homes, businesses, restaurants, automobiles, families, and churches. October is an ideal time to walk in Nashville, so call your friends, family and colleagues, and make plans to join us at lunchtime for a walk.  Recognition and “bragging rights” for the biggest group from a single organization or business! (Hint: “biggest” group is often just four folks, so you can do it!)
